Real case studies
Case study 1
Miss X in her 90’s, was facing residential care in 2011 (which she did not want) due to worsening mobility problems and advancing dementia which meant that she was becoming isolated and unable to manage on a day to day basis. Her NOK, (next of kin) was an elderly sister who lived many miles away.
MMWS became involved and managed all of the lady’s practical day to day needs and provided daily social contact and escorted outings. Close observation was maintained to monitor health, safety and security and techniques used such as poetry, reading and singing to stimulate memory. Close communication was maintained with the NOK.
As the dementia advanced significantly, some personal care at home was eventually sourced through social services by the warden scheme, but MMWS provided for all other physical and emotional needs in parallel thus preventing the need for residential care.
The client passed away in May 2015 and the warden was with the client, as her sister was unable to get there in time because of the distance. This lady’s wish to remain at home was fulfilled as a direct result of our support and 4 years of residential care costs avoided.
The client’s NOK wrote “I am just so grateful to you because it is your tender, loving care (and I do not mean that just as a cliche!) that has made it possible for ‘X’ to remain at home as was her wish always. Without you it would have been impossible for me to manage”

Case study 2
Mr ‘Y’ in his 80’s was of concern to neighbours who contacted MMWS. Mr ‘Y’ was isolated, unable to leave his home, was living in difficult conditions and was found to be without food in his home.
He had no family as his wife and son had both tragically died many years before. Reluctant to invite the warden in, he accepted the offer to get some shopping, but from there the relationship and the trust were built and Mr ‘Y’ became a long term client of the scheme.
The warden was welcomed as a regular visitor and when the living conditions were noted, MMWS sourced a bed (he had been sleeping in an old chair) and other furniture from a charity and helped Mr ‘Y’ to select and purchase a cooker, washing machine and drier. A cleaner and a gardener were engaged with MMWS’ help and his day to day living conditions were dramatically improved. The warden also shopped for new clothes and other items on Mr ‘Y’’s behalf.
Mr ‘Y’’s health had been poor and he had been very depressed, however with the support of MMWS, his health and mood improved as a result of better nutrition, regular medication and increased comfort and facilities in his home. He improved to such an extent that he held a little tea party to say thank you which had been unimaginable before.
Mr ‘Y’ passed away in January 2015 and was a client for almost 10 years, avoiding residential care throughout this time thanks to MMWS support.
